Tourism Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announces to provide free set of books to all Higher Education Institutes & Libraries

Chandigarh, November 28 – The Punjab Government has decided to provide free set of four books based on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to all the higher educational institutes and libraries across the state. These books have been published by the Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Punjab authored by the prominent writers which include ‘Coffee Table Book -The Golden Tree’ dedicated to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by Padma Shri Dr. Surjit Patar, A book on compilation of Sri Guru Nanak Bani and its explanation ‘Guru Nanak Bani-Path and Vyakhya’ by prominent Sikh scholar Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi, A book based on life of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji ‘ Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji- Life and Relics’ by Professor Gurbir Singh and Research Fellow Saliner Singh and another book which contains details of the 70 places in Punjab visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji during his life time ‘Lonely Planet-Guru Nanak’s Blessed Trail’ by Ms. Puneetinder Sidhu.

The Cultural Affairs & Tourism Minister, Punjab Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi receiving of set of books from the officials of the tourism department said that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has decided to provide free set of books to all the higher educational Institutes and Libraries of the state as part of the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He said that this is just a small initiative of the Punjab Government to connect our Youth and young generation towards the invaluable teachings and message of peace & universal brotherhood preached by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. ‘These books are authored by the prominent scholars which are also rich source of information for the research scholars and academicians,’ added Mr. Channi.

Briefing further about this initiative the Principal Secretary of the Tourism & Cultural Affairs Mr. Vikas Partap said that the two set of books each to be sent to Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Punjab Vidhan Sabha libraries. Apart from this, two sets each would be provided to the libraries of 30 Universities of the state, one set each to 184 government & private colleges, and 76 libraries which include MGSIPA, Judicial Academy, Police Academy, Secretariat and High Court. These sets of books would also be sent to 112 ITI’s, 211 Polytechnics and 277 Engineering Colleges. ‘About 1000 institutes and libraries would be provided sets of these books, said Vikas Partap.

Mr. Malwinder Singh Jaggi Director Tourism & Cultural Affairs department said that he has been assigned the duty to tie up with all the institutes and libraries to safe delivery of set of books and said that his office is personally getting in touch with all the concerned for timely completion of this task.
