Chandigarh – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, has accused the government in the saddle of allowing Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) indulge in an open ‘loot’ of power consumers in the state on behalf of private companies and government-sponsored power mafia, stating that the deliberate delay in generating and dispatching bills to the consumers by two and a half months, owning to which they were paying an additional expense raging between 15 per cent and 20 per cent.
In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Monday, coordinator of the party’s ‘Bijli Morcha’ against high power tariff in the state, and MLA Meet Hayer said that the party had raised the issue of inordinate delay in dispatching of bills and grant of new power connections.
State convener and Sangrur Member of Parliament, Bhagwant Mann said that, like the erstwhile Badal government, the Captain Government too was indulging in an open ‘loot’ of the consumers, saying that electricity offices in the state were not functional for the past more than 20-25 days. He added that the electricity bills, which should have reached all kinds of consumer 15-20 days ago, had not been even generated, saying that those seeking amendment in the wrongly-generated bills or seeking new power connections were left to suffer. He said that the Captain Government was playing in the hands of private power companies and government sponsored mafia adding that the deliberate delay in generating bills and dispatching them to the consumers were costing them between 15 and 20 per cent over and above.
Meet Hayer demanded that the PSPCL should direct all concerned to revert to monthly bill system instead of two-month being followed to save common consumers from being openly fleeced, saying the government should make all government power plants functional by scrapping the anti-state and anti-people PPAs entered into between both of them.
Mann and Hayer that AAP was making the affected people aware of the open ‘loot’ of consumers by the high and mighty power mafia at village level under the ‘Bijli Morcha’ and would soon hold a massive protest rally in the state, saying that if the Arvind Kejriwal government could provide electricity to consumers for free up to 200 units, why couldn’t Captain Government provide electricity to consumers in Punjab at cheaper rate?
