Kidnap accused found dead in Maharashtra, but no trace of GNDU professor

The case has seen several twists ever since the alleged kidnapping on September 11 evening, when the Hindi professor had gone to meet Garry at a restaurant near the campus over some money he owed her.
The man who allegedly kidnapped an assistant professor of Guru Nank Dev University (GNDU) from Amritsar on September 11 allegedly committed suicide in Amboli village of Maharashtra on Wednesday, it is learnt. But there is still no trace of the professor, Sukhpreet Kaur, 32, who belongs to Baghapurana in Moga district.
Sources said she was last seen in Dhilwan in Kapurthala district, and later also not seen in the front seats of the car when Garry in the driving seat was captured in cameras at highway toll plazas of Jaipur and Vadodara. This has raised suspicions that she may have been murdered.
Sources said police found the body of Jazzinder Singh Virk, alias Garry, 30, of Kharar in Mohali, next to his car, and informed counterparts in Amritsar. Cops from here reached the spot on Wednesday evening, and now suspect that he may have killed Sukhpreet, with whom he was once hoping to get married after responding to an advertisement in 2014.
Both stayed at hotel, he visited fiancee
Meanwhile, police investigation also revealed that both the victim and the accused had stayed in a hotel in Subhanpur, Punjab, on the first night after the alleged kidnapping. Police said that though CCTV cameras are installed at the hotel, the recorder was lying defunct due to which backup for the footage was not available.
The next day, Garry visited the family of his fiancée alone. “He offered the family of his fiancée to accompany him for dinner at a local restaurant. The prospective mother-in-law, sister-in-law and the fiancée went with him in his car. He dropped them off midway after suspecting that police was chasing him, though that was not the case,” said a police official who was not authorised to speak to the media.
Garry also made calls from the phone of his fiancée which were scrutinized later by the investigation team. Sources said that he took the phone of the younger sister of his fiancée with him but did not use it.
Police said that, when questioned, the fiancée claimed Garry never revealed anything fishy to her or the family.

The kidnapping was reported by the family last Friday and they also received a ransom demand for Rs 3 lakh from the kidnapper who used her phone to send messages, police said. This later went up to Rs 30 lakh.
In CCTV footage later from toll plazas, he was seen on the Jaipur highway from Delhi and later at Vadodara in Gujarat. Only the front seats were seen and Garry is driving alone in the Honda City sedan with the number plate reading CH-03-K-0012, which was eventually recovered with his body.
