‘Real soldier’ did nothing for the brave hearts fighting for OROP: Harpal Singh Cheema

Chandigarh – Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday mounted a frontal attack on Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh did nothing for the  ground Indian soldiers, who had been fighting for ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) for a long time now. He said Captain had never cared for the real soldiers.

Reacting to Captain Amarinder Singh’s statement ‘Filmy fauzi’ vs. ‘Asli fauzi’ made by him Gurdaspur, Cheema said that BJP had fielded actor Sunny Deol in Gurdaspur constituency as a ‘Parachute’ candidate, a move which was decried by party cadres. This leaves nothing to speculation ‘how non-serious was the Modi government towards the issues and concerns of real soldiers during its 5-year-old stint in power. He said the people of the constituency had made up their mind to give a befitting reply to him in the battle of ballot.

Cheema accused Captain Amrinder Singh of being complacent on this front too, saying that had he been a true soldier, he would have broached the issue of the OROP with the Modi-led NDA government in Delhi to take the issue to a conclusive end. He added that it was not for the first time that the demand for OROP had risen during the Modi government, it had risen during the previous UPA government as well.

Cheema said that Captain was a ‘fake soldier’ who did nothing for the brave soldiers, saying he should learn from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who, Cheema said, held the soldiers in high esteem. He added that the Delhi government paid an immediate financial of Rs one crore to the family of those who lay down their lives for the country. He has also taken historic decisions to bettering the condition of schools and hospitals in Delhi, besides affordable power tariff for one and all.
